Garlic Bread Sprinkle Recipe

Cheesy, buttery garlic bread is the perfect side dish to just about any meal. I love how it comes together in just a few minutes and can bulk up a meal with loads of flavor.

Garlic bread is quite easy to make, but in the rush of making dinner I will often throw it together with just butter and garlic.

Don’t get me wrong, bread with butter and garlic is delicious. But garlic bread has so much more potential than just those two ingredients!

This garlic bread seasoning is the perfect way to have decadent, zesty garlic bread without spending a lot of time on it. You can mix loads of tasty shelf-stable ingredients in advance and have garlic bread sprinkle to put on your garlic bread.

If you want to level up your garlic bread without a lot of extra work, you will love this delicious homemade seasoning.

Ingredients in Garlic Bread Seasoning

  • Grated parmesan cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Dried basil
  • Dried oregano
  • Dried parsley
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Kosher salt
  • Black pepper

Storage Suggestions

The great thing about this garlic bread seasoning is you can make a big batch to have on hand. Whenever you need an easy side, you can make garlic bread with ease having already measured and mixed all of the seasoning in advance.

To store your garlic bread sprinkle, transfer the mixture to an airtight container such as a mason jar. Store it in the refrigerator for best results, but room temperature will work for some time.

How to Use Garlic Bread Seasoning

Making delicious garlic bread is easy with homemade garlic bread sprinkle. Gather your ingredients and follow these simple instructions.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • A loaf of bread
  • 1 stick butter, softened (you may need less depending on the size of your bread loaf)
  • 3 tablespoons garlic bread seasoning, or more to taste
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic
  • Fresh herbs to garnish

How to Make Garlic Bread with Seasoning

  1. In a small bowl, mix butter and garlic bread seasoning. Use a garlic press to mince fresh garlic cloves and add that to the bowl. Stir well to combine.
  2. Cut a loaf of bread lengthwise and spread your garlic butter mixture onto the cut sides. For extra cheesy garlic bread, sprinkle a little cheese on top. I like to use parmigiano reggiano.
  3. Wrap the bread in aluminum foil or place it on a baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes, or until the butter is melted and the bread is warm. To make it crispy, broil the bread face-up until it is golden brown.
  4. Garnish with fresh herbs, like fresh parsley or basil.
  5. Cut the bread into thick slices and serve with your favorite pasta dishes

Tips

  • Use shelf-stable parmesan cheese for best results. You can use freshly grated cheese (it definitely tastes better!), but you will need to keep the seasoning in the refrigerator and it will not last nearly as long.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of herbs and spices to your liking. If you enjoy one ingredient and don’t care for another, change the quantities.
  • If you want to make a really big batch so you don’t have to make the seasoning often, keep it in the freezer. I like to make a quart bag of the seasoning and have it ready in the freezer whenever I need it.
  • If you are sensitive to saltiness, use unsalted butter or olive oil to make your garlic bread. You can add more salt to your seasoning to taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Italian seasoning?

You can use Italian seasoning in place of the dried herbs. The flavor of the seasoning will be different, but this is a great way to make this simple recipe even quicker.

What is garlic bread sprinkle?

Garlic bread sprinkle is another name for garlic bread seasoning. McCormick used to sell a popular seasoning called garlic bread sprinkle, but it was discontinued. Fortunately, you can make your own at home and it is much tastier than the store-bought versions!

What kind of bread should I use for garlic bread?

You can use any bread that you enjoy eating. A loaf of French bread or Italian bread is my go-to, but I also like sourdough or a thick baguette.
